This drug acts more as an anxiolytic but has weak sedative and amnestic effects, as shown in animal studies.
This drug was first developed and synthesized by Merck, Sharp and Dohme and its synthesis was described in 2005 in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
Animal studies have shown that stabilization of potassium chloride cotransporter 2, on neuronal membranes can enhance L-838,417 drug-induced analgesia in rodents, as well as maintain its analgesic potential at high doses, by combined effects of the respective GABA receptor subtypes α2, α3 and restoring Cl-homeostasis.
