Description
NM-2-AI(N-methyl-2-aminoindane, IUPAC: 2,3-dihydro-N-methyl-1H-inden-2-amine, monohydrochloride) is a stimulant drug of the aminoindane class, a structural analog of 2-AI and MDAI and has a similar molecular structure, N-methylated derivative of 2aminoindane, the terminal R3 carbon of the propane chain of amphetamine is linked to the benzene ring to form indan, a bicyclic containing a benzene ring fused to the pentane ring.
The effects of the drug are similar to those of amphetamine and methamphetamine, NM-2-AI increases the levels of the neurotransmitters noradrenaline and dopamine in the brain, which leads to a stimulating and euphoric effect. NM-2-AI has similar effects to 2-AI, but of lesser strength and longer duration.
It is poorly understood and little data is available on its pharmacological and toxicological properties and is reserved for research and testing in specially equipped laboratories.
N-methyl-2-aminoindane is prohibited for sale in the United Kingdom, Germany and Switzerland.
