Deschloroetizolam is a sedative of the thienodiazepine class, which acts on the body as an antidepressant, anxiolytic, sedative, and anticonvulsant. Deschloroetizolam acts like benzodiazepines and binds to GABA receptors. Deschloroetizolam is a designer drug and has a similar structure to benzodiazepines such as etizolam, alprazolam, and more specifically the benzene ring is replaced by a thiophene ring, classifying it as a thienodiazepine. The only difference from etizolam is the removal of the chlorine atom in position 2 on the phenyl ring.
The effects of deschloroetizolam are much faster than those of etizolam.
This drug is poorly studied and little is known about its toxicity and pharmacological properties, but it can be potentially dangerous when taking deschloroetizolam with other sedatives and opioids and alcohol, as well as in high dosages. Regular use can cause physical and psychological dependence. Also high doses of the drug slow down thinking, there appears slurred speech, confusion of consciousness, depression of breathing.
Deschloroetizolam is banned for sale in the UK, Turkey, and Switzerland.
