Ro4-1539 (or furethylnorlevorphanol) is an opioid analgesic of the morphine series, first developed in 1950 by Hoffmann-La Roche and tested in animal experiments and is a potent μ-opioid receptor agonist, about 120-480 times stronger than morphine.
This drug never entered the commercial market as it had no particular clinical advantages over other available opioids and was not used in human medicine, although it showed a good therapeutic index.
Studies have shown that Ro4-1539 can cause effects such as severe analgesia, sedation, euphoria, as well as pruritus, constipation, tachyphylaxis and a high likelihood of respiratory depression in the case of inappropriate dosage.
Ro4-1539 is sold online as a designer drug for research and scientific purposes.
